Workouts This Week
BTC Athletes and Parents,
Despite cancelling practices this week, we want to continue to offer workouts to those interested. Please see below the workout suggestions:
Suggested Tuesday Workout
Tempo Workout - Make sure to do warm-up run and drills/strides. The point of this workout is to run a sustained pace effort through out the entire run. Ideally the tempo pace is 30-45 seconds (depending on age) slower than the athletes goal race pace. Once the tempo is started, you will run continuous until the cool down.
13-14 Boys and Girls and Nike Red Group - 7 minute warm-up, Drills and Strides, 20-30 minute tempo @ ~6:15-6:45 pace, 5 minute cool down. Tempo Pace is race pace plus 30 seconds per mile.
11-12 Boys and Girls and Nike Green Group - 5 minute warm-up, Drills and Strides, 15-20 minute tempo @ ~6:30-7:00 minute pace, 5 minute cool down. Tempo pace is race pace plus 30 seconds per mile.
9-10 Boys and Girls and Nike Orange/Blue Groups - 5 minute warm-up, Drills and Strides, 12-8 minute tempo run (Orange group 12 minutes, Blue group 8 minutes), 3-5 minute cool down. Tempo pace is race pace plus 45 seconds per mile.
8&U Boys and Girls and Nike Yellow Group - 5 minute warm-up, Drills and Strides, 2x 4:00 minute tempo run with 3:00 minute rest, 2 min cool down. Tempo pace is race pace plus 45 seconds per mile.
Suggested Thursday Workout
Fartlek Workout - Make sure to do warm-up run and drills/strides. The point of this workout is to run continuously, alternating between race pace (think mid race pace per mile) and easy jogging. Once the fartlek is started, you will run continuous until the cool down.
13-14 Boys and Girls and Nike Red Group - 10 minute warm-up, Drills and Strides, 6x(3:00 hard, 1:30 easy), 10 minute cool down
11-12 Boys and Girls and Nike Green Group - 10 minute warm-up, Drills and Strides, 5-6x(3:00 hard, 1:30 easy), 5 minute cool down
9-10 Boys and Girls and Nike Orange/Blue Groups - 5 minute warm-up, Drills and Strides, 4-5x(2:00 hard, 1:00 easy), 5 min cool down
8&U Boys and Girls and Nike Yellow Group - 3-5 minute warm-up, Drills and Strides, 6-8x(1:00 fast, 1:00 walk/jog), 2-3 minute cool down
BTC Youth Practices Cancelled This Week- ALL LOCATIONS
Tuesday/Thursday Practices Cancelled This Week At All Locations
Our first priority at BTC is the health and safety of our athletes. With that being said, we are going to cancel all practices at all locations (Nike, N. Portland, Sherwood and Lake Oswego) this week (3/3 and 3/5) due to caution around the coronavirus.
We will email out again next Sunday on the status of practices next week. Next week will be the final week of pre-track practices. We will not make up this week later.
Workouts will be sent out tomorrow for those who have the ability and interest to continue their training during this time.
A reminder that Pre-Track program is meant to give kids a jumpstart to get ready for their school or CYO Track Program. CYO Track starts the week following pre-track (3/16).
2020 Pre-Track Practice
Pre-Track Practice: February 18th - March 12th
Time goes fast! It feels like we were just finishing off the cross country season, but its already time to start thinking about the upcoming track season! To get our kids ready for the track season, we will hold normal practices every Tuesday/Thursday from February 18th until March 12th. New this year - we will be holding Pre-Track Practice at all of our normal XC practice locations (Nike Campus, Sherwood, Eastside and Lake Oswego) instead of just at Nike. The Pre-Track program is only a total of 8 practices and is meant to give kids a jumpstart to get ready for their school or CYO Track Program. Its FREE for everyone, all of our youth XC members are welcome, as well as newcomers. Feel free to bring along a friend! No additional sign-up is required if you ran cross country with us this fall. If you are new, please fill out the waiver sign-up by following the link below.

Athlete Number Pick-Up
Coaches will pick up our team packet and numbers on Thursday. We will plan to have a team meeting on Friday morning at 11:00 AM at the Hampton Inn (BTC Hotel) and will pass out race numbers then. We will accept payment for Friday Team Dinner at that time (see below for more info). After the team meeting we will depart from the hotel for the course preview. We will aim to leave at 12:00pm for course preview on Friday.
Weather Forecast
The weather for Friday and Saturday look to be a little cold! The lows for both days are 28 and 10 degrees with a chance of snow for Saturday. Let’s make sure we are packing layers! Highs are forecasted to be in the mid 30s. Make sure you pack your jackets, pants and warm clothes. We suggest packing gloves or other materials that you will not care if you lose them. Often kids start races in layers and become warm so if they have gloves they know they can toss off, that is generally helpful.
Live Race Results and USATF.TV Streaming
Live results will be available on the event webpage. Official results will be available at the course. A live stream will be broadcast at USATF.TV. If you have a USATF+ account, you can watch the broadcast here.
Course Maps and Starting Box
All course maps for 2k, 3k and 4k races and the table of the starting boxes can be found here.
Coaches will take care of getting the athletes to the right spot. The table is a little confusing. We are Region 13 so look for the "13" in the grid for each age group for our starting box.
