The USATF Junior Olympic State Association meet is held over two days on Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th at Springfield High School. A reminder that if you signed up your athlete for an event that is not the 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 4x800 or 4x400 it is your responsibility to get your athlete checked in and at their event on time. The full schedule of the meet can be found attached below.

We will have a BTC Tent for athletes and our coaches will make sure to get their athletes checked in and through their warm ups. We expect all athletes to show up with plenty of time to rest and warm up ahead of their events.
Advancement procedures to Regionals + Nationals
A reminder that everyone is eligible to compete at the State meet as long as they follow the USATF membership & age verification rules below. The top 16 athletes per event qualify for Regionals which will be held July 7th-9th at Mt. Hood Community College in Portland, OR. At Regionals, the top 5 athletes per event qualify for Nationals which will be held July 24th-30th at Hayward Field in Eugene. I highly encourage you try to make these meets. With Nationals being in Oregon, we get more athlete qualification numbers. It is an incredible opportunity to try and qualify for a National meet without having to travel very far.
Expenses for non-distance events at JO State Meet
A reminder that we will only cover the costs of races 400m and up. The cost for the event an athlete wishes to register in that is not 400m and up will be covered by the athlete. Each event is $8. We will inform you if you fall under this category and set up a payment online or you can bring a check/cash to practice on Wednesday. Additionally, if you register for the competition and then do not show up (unless due to illness or injury), we will ask for you to cover the cost of the entry.

The cost for the event an athlete wishes to register in that is not 400m and up will be covered by the athlete. Each event is $8. Additionally, if you register for the competition and then do not show up (unless due to illness or injury), we will ask for you to cover the cost of the entry.

Our next race sign-up is here. Please see below the sign-up for the Albina Invitational held on this upcoming Saturday, June 10th, at Union High School in Camas, WA. Please follow the link below to indicate interest in your athlete racing at this competition. BTC will cover race entry for races between 400m-3000m, 4x400m for up to 3 events 8u,9-10 & 11-12 or 4 events 13-14. You can also request one non-distance event for your athlete to try but a reminder that we will not be able to provide coaching and you will need to get your athlete to the start of their event! Please indicate your athlete’s interest in the sign-up. Requested events (especially relays) are subject to coaches discretion and availability.
Nike Outdoor Nationals Middle School Races
The Nike Outdoor Nationals meet is being held from June 15th-18th with Middle School races being held on Thursday, June 15th and Friday, June 16th. These races are by invitation only and require an entry standard. The potential races and entry standards for our athletes are:
Boys 400m: 58.04
Girls 400m: 1:05
Boys 800m: 2:16
Girls 800m: 2:40
Boys 1 Mile/1500: 5:10/4:50
Girls 1 Mile/1500: 5:40/5:20
Athletes must be 6th-8th grade with a Sept 1, 2003 birthdate deadline. The cost of this event is $55 and must be covered by parents. If your athlete has hit one of these standards and wants to compete, please indicate so in the Albina Invitational Sign-Up. The entry deadline closes at 12:00pm on Sunday, June 11th so athletes will have one more chance at the Albina Invitational to qualify. However, many events may close due to field size limitations. I’m speaking with the event organizers about this tomorrow but if your athlete has hit this time, please submit it sooner rather than later.

BTC Tent @ PTF Youth Meet
We will have two large red BTC tents at the meet in one of the warm up areas. We will target the warm up area by the large parking lot. This is where your athletes should come to meet the coaches and prepare for their races. We will make sure the athletes warm up, do their drills and get to the check in on time. It is very important that you arrive with plenty of time.

If you are registered for an event and do not plan to complete, please message youth@bowermantc.com as soon as possible! There are a lot of athletes competing this weekend. Additionally, you are required to fill out the youth meet event waiver for each athlete. Your athlete will not be able to compete without filling out this waiver below. I am still waiting on a confirmed meet schedule. There will be a projected meet schedule that I will send out when received (which should be later today) but parents need to know the schedule is a “Rolling Schedule”. This means the times listed are approximate and athletes and coaches need to “be ready” and listen to the announcer. It is possible that race times may occur up to 60 min earlier than the listed or up to 30 min later than listed.
As of now, running events begin at 9:00am in the order of 3000m, 100m, 800m, 4x100m. As soon as I have a firm schedule, I will send it out.

Albina Invitational Sign-Up
Sign up for next Saturday (6/10) Albina Invitational will go out on Sunday night after the PTF youth meet. Sign-up will close on noon Tuesday, June 6th. A reminder that we will send out an announcement with a form for you to fill out indicating which races you’d like your athlete to compete in. We will register your athlete for the races. For the Albina Invitational, you will be able to register for 3 Events for age group 8U 9-10 11-12 and 4 Events for age groups 13-14.

At the end of the first day of practice, we will have uniforms and the new 2023 BTC Dragonfly available for try on and purchase in a range of youth sizes. If you’ve received a uniform in the mail and the sizing isn’t quite right, we will do size exchanges then.

Practice Information
Practices will be held every Monday and Wednesday evening from 5:15pm-6:15pm at the Michael Johnson Track at Nike WHQ Campus starting on Wednesday May 31st and concluding during the last week of July where USATF Junior Olympic Championships will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Please try to arrive at 5:00pm on the first day of practice so we can answer questions and get organized quickly. A few coaches will plan to be around before and after practice to answer questions.
Practice Requirements
Every athlete should show up to practice with running shoes and water bottle (with your full name on it!). We expect athletes to be respectful to all other athletes and coaches and be responsive to coaches instructions. We also ask that you are respectful of the time commitment and arrive at the start of practice and pick up on time. Arriving late to drop off or pick up creates much difficulty on our staff within a limited practice time.
Uniforms
If you’ve received a uniform in the mail and the sizing isn’t quite right, we will do size exchanges the first few practices. Please try to handle this issue the first practice.
