We know that there are still some athletes looking to purchase a jersey for this year. We will have jerseys available at the meet on Friday. If the cost of a uniform or any other financial burden associated with racing deters the attendance at competitions or practices, please reach out to youth@bowermantc.com about at-need scholarships and other ways we can help anyone who wants to be part of the program be involved.
Youth Jackets
Youth Jackets are at the screen printers and will be available in the next week or two at practice. We will send out the link to purchase the jacket along with other youth items (such as last year’s rain jacket) on Saturday.
In/Out Spike Box
This year we are providing a spike box where you can bring or take gently used cross country spikes. If you have outgrown a pair of spikes or don’t wear a certain pair anymore please feel free to drop them off in the box. If you are in need of spikes, please feel free to look and see if a size fits you. Coach Cookie can speak to you more on this at the local races this year.
Nike Employee Store
Unfortunately Nike will not be able to host a spike night for us this season due to delivery and manufacturing issues with youth spikes. However, they have given us a flyer to still invite our BTC families the opportunity into the employee store to get shoes, shorts or any other seasonal gear you may need. More information coming Saturday.
New Uniforms at 3 Course Challenge
BTC Youth,
To the athletes racing at the 3 Course Challenge this weekend, if you did not get a 2019 uniform or you need to exchange your size, we will have the uniforms restocked at the race.
Parents a quick note on uniforms: Uniform sizing runs from women’s xs-men’s m (women’s sizing is youth sizing). Most youth athletes will be women’s XS-M based on the analysis taken over the summer. We know that kids grow and the desire is to generally order up a size. We prefer you to order a singlet that is as close as comfortable to a true fit.
Reminders for tomorrow:
Directions to Race (Camp Rilea): HERE
Schedule:
Boys Race 9:00am
Girls Race: 9:05am
Note: Boys and girls will finish in separate chutes.
If you are driving to the race, please have your Drivers License ready to show at parking. Parking costs $5. It’s an early morning but allow for 2 hours driving time from Downtown Portland.
Please plan to arrive 1 hour before the start of your race. We look forward to seeing everyone out this weekend.
BTC Youth Sunday Runs
BTC Youth Families,
There have been some questions about Sunday organized runs. A few of our parent coaches have offered up the below information regarding Sunday runs:
Meet at the Leif Erikson trail head at the end of NW Thurman Street in Portland at 1pm on Sundays. This is a social event and intended for families to run together. A great opportunity to meet other BTC families. The younger athletes will start out with a 2.5 mile run and the older athletes will start at around 5 miles or whatever is comfortable. We will slowly add to the distance from week to week. Running will be fun, easy paced, and conversational. Rain or shine.
This is a parent/volunteer-led event. Parents who are not running should check-in with the leaders before the run starts (i.e. please don't simply drop off your child without knowing who they are running with).
For more information or questions regarding Sunday Runs please email mikelauruhn@gmail.com or pete.brefczynski@nike.com
Portland Marathon Volunteer Opportunity- Kate Grace
BTC Youth Families,
BTC Pro Kate Grace is helping the Portland Marathon recruit and manage course marshals for this year's race on Sunday October 6th. They are looking for volunteers for 5-6 hours on race morning (this can also be split into two 3-hour shifts). This is an unpaid position, but the marathon is donating to any clubs who send 10 or more members to volunteer.
In addition to raising a bit of money for BTC, this is a way to give back to a great local race, cheer on runners, and maybe show off some BTC gear in the process. Details of the position are below (you man an intersection, make sure all traffic abides by the course markings, and serve as first contact for runners who have any questions or medical issues).
Please contact kate.c.grace@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering!
Additionally, please reach out if you are a member of another running club, or coach of a high school team, and think there might be interest in sending a group. As well as netting a club donation from Portland Marathon, serving as a marshal counts for volunteer hours to fulfill high school quotas.
Position details:
Course Marshals are volunteers who man an intersection on the marathon course on Sunday, October 6th from roughly 6:30AM to 1PM. Course marshals are in charge of keeping traffic away from the marathon course, marking the marathon route, and keeping an eye out for runners with medical emergencies. Course marshals are assigned to a specific intersection on the route, and must be in place when the police conduct a pre-race course run through. The race cannot start until all course marshals are in position.
To help with recruiting, the Portland Marathon can make a donation to clubs or groups that "volunteer" as course marshals. In order to receive a donation, clubs/groups must have more than 10 members, and fulfill all race day duties. Club donations work out to roughly $10/volunteer per 3 hour shift.

Registration
If you haven't done so already and are interested in participating this year, please complete the online registration. Registration payment for this year should be done online this year so we don't have to collect anything at practice. If you have not submitted payment, please see the online registration above. Registration fees for the season is $100 per athlete or $200 maximum per family. If the registration fee is a financial issue, please contact us about scholarships at youth@bowermantc.com.
Uniforms
Demand for larger sizes was bigger than we anticipated. To clarify for parents, a “youth” sizing is women’s sizing, i.e. a youth XS is a women’s XS. We believe the majority of youth athletes 12 and under (and some 13-14) will fit underneath this category. If you’ve already purchased a size larger than XS we encourage you to have them try it on to make sure that it fits appropriately.
We will only have size XS on hand tonight at the Nike practice location. We still encourage you to have your son/daughter try it on. We are doing a rush order on the larger sizes and hope they will be available for the first meet next Saturday.
If you are at a different practice location other than Nike, please inform the location coach of your desired size and we will get the singlets to you next week!
Singlets ($40) are new this season and will be the new uniform from 2019-21 season at a minimum, so everyone will need to purchase a new singlet.
Jackets ($40) will be available for optional purchase as soon as possible
