2013 USATF Masters Individual Cross Country Champion and member of 3 X National Championship Team for Cross Country Masters.  All American from 800-10000 meters in the masters track category.  Fastest Masters Miler indoors in 2013 4:19.20.  Avid Caver, hiker, artist, writer, photographer, videographer and many other things except cooking.  Pacer to many of Nike’s great runners (Galen Rupp, Jordan Hasay, Shannon Rowbury, and Shalane Flanagan) since 2004.

Oscar Bauman


 
 
 

Since joining the Masters ranks of BTC, Oscar has been a key piece in 3 national titles.  And 2 runner up finishes.  Oscar has had some of the nation’s fastest masters times both indoor and outdoor.  With Masters PRs of 31:14-- 15:12-- 8:46--he has been a force on the roads and track.  It helps that he often gets to pace the elite women and sometimes men of the Nike Oregon Project as well as other elites in the Portland area.  Known as a part of the twin duo of the Dutch Brothers.  Enjoys spelunking and exploring the great outdoors...Also a renowned chef.

 

 

Matt Farley


 
 
 

Matt was a high school State Champion in Idaho and college Conference champion in Cross-Country who came back to running in his 40's after decades off. He's been on three of the BTC USATF National Club Cross-Country Championship squads (Bethlehem, San Francisco, and Tallahassee) and three BTC US National Cross-Country Championship Squads (Bend x 2 and San Diego). He was 3rd individually at the 2016 USATF National XC meet in Bend, Oregon and in December 2016 at the USATF Club Cross-Country National meet in Tallahassee, Matt was second in M45-49. In February of 2017 at the USATF National Cross-Country meet in Bend, OR he won the individual national title for M45-49. Matt now competes primarily on the M50’s squad which won its first National Team title in San Diego at the 2020 US National cross-country meet where Matt placed 3rd individually for M50-54. Matt's wife, Tina, and children, Katie and Lane, note that he is obsessed with running & Bruce Springsteen and he is not pleasant to be around when he’s injured. Matt is a Portland City attorney and can often be spotted in City Hall running to meetings in his "Track Suit."

Josh Gordon


 
 
 

In just his second year as BTCM runner, he has been an integral part of the three championship teams: 2014 USATF XC Club Nationals in Bethlehem, PA; 2015 USATF XC Club Nationals in San Francisco, CA; and 2016 USATF XC Nationals in Bend, OR.  Josh is also adept on the track achieving Masters All-American standards in the mile, 3K, 5K, and 10K distances. Josh’s wife, Renee, is a competitive marathoner. Josh is the faculty and the undergraduate program manager at the University of Oregon Lundquist College of Business Warsaw Sports Marketing Center. Additionally, he is the founder of the Sports Conflict Institute, a consultancy and think tank that addresses issues in international, professional, and collegiate sports.

 

 

George Hanson


 
 
 

Shortly after turning 40, George won the Masters Invitational Program 3,000 meter race at Hayward Field during the USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He has great closing speed, clocking a 60.7 final 400 meters to take the victory. In earlier years he was an All-American runner while in college at the University of Minnesota Duluth, racking up 17 conference titles. George has a lifetime mile PR of 4:08.41 and has run 8:50.96 in the 3,000 meters as a Masters athlete. George received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Oregon and currently works as a Scientist for Thermo Fisher Scientific. George resides in Eugene with his wife Natalie and daughter Lucy. 

 

 

John Howell


 
 
 

John was the 2015 BTC Masters Runner of the Year. He has consistently the #1 or #2 runner for the team the past two seasons (2014-2015). John was also named the Stumptown Cross-Country Series Grand Prix Masters Champion in 2015. He has produced three consecutive top-ten finishes in the USATF National Cross-Country races (2013,2014,2015) and has been an integral part of three National Champion teams. In his free time, John is a very successful Spartan competitor. Here’s a Fun Fact: John likes to do push-ups or pull-ups with his children on his back (literally). 

 

 

Greg Mitchell


 
 
 

Greg Mitchell started his masters career off with a bang by setting the US masters record for 20k on the track on his 40th birthday. Since then he has racked up numerous accolades in the masters ranks. His individual USATF Masters Championship titles now number in the double digits (10) and he has been a part of three BTC Masters team titles in cross country. He also won the individual USATF Masters Grand Prix in 2014 and 2015. In addition to being a cross country and track coach, he works as a manager at Portland Running Company. Greg is happily married and has one daughter who, when asked about her feelings regarding her presence at an early morning start line to watch her father race, she replied, "This is what we do."

Orin Schumacher


 
 
 

Orin spent his younger athletic career as a competitive, D1 soccer player.  In 1994 a rock climbing accident ultimately led to his second career sport as a competitive Masters runner. Orin started running in 2005 and now it’s his lifestyle.  New to the BTCM ranks in 2015, Orin has stepped forward to be one of the most consistent, scoring members of the team. Orin also contributed to the USATF NationalClub Championship win in San Francisco (2015) and the USATF National Cross-Country Championship win in Bend (2016). Orin has a very impressive Masters marathon PR of 2:35:12.
